Driving Hexham Forward:

Ideas for the redevelopment of Hexham Bus Station and Surrounding Sites: Autumn 2008 – March 2009

The slow-burn development of Hexham bus station has rumbled on since 1995. Tynedale Council proposed to relocate the bus station on Priestpopple, to a new site on Loosing Hill. What will be the future of the vacated site? How best can it be used to serve the people of Hexham?

A Vision for Hexham: One idea generated by students.
A Vision for Hexham: One idea generated by students.

With these questions in mind, and to stimulate debate and ideas, Hexham Civic Society asked Urban Design Masters Students at Newcastle University to look at the bus station and surrounding sites. We held an exhibition of a selection of the best of the student’s proposals from the 6th-9th march 2009 at the Forum Cinema Cafe.

The exhibition was launched by a presentation by the University’s Urban Design Tutor. Both presentation and subsequent exhibition were very well attended, with press coverage in both the Hexham Courant and the Newcastle Journal. We hope that the student’s workhas helped to stimulate debate and hopefully provided ideas that will be taken up by developers.
